SIL purse complete!

I have evidence that I am knitting! I finished the purse for my SIL birthday. They postponed the party...doh! but at least the purse is complete. I used Cascade 220 Quattro (three strands held together) and found the ribbon and button at Walmart. I knit up the wallet just for fun from Alterknits PDA Case. I omitted the handle and picked a button to match. I tried to embroider on it (I really did!) but I stink at that stuff.

I'm knitting, I swear but I'm having motivation issues with the digital camera and I have too many projects on the needles to have anything far enough along for interesting pictures. I don't usually have more than one project at a time (yep, I'm a loyal gal) but lately I've been having motivation issues and I keep starting projects before others are finished. I just got the book Knitted Toys by Zoe Mellor and I have started a bunny before finishing my daughter's school sweater or my SIL purse. Stink! I need to finish a few things up.

Interweave glove

I just loved the motorcycle gloves in Interweave's latest magazine. I have knit one and I have put off the other until I finish the SIL bag. This is a progress pic from right before I finished it. The pattern called for the strap to be sewn down making it faux and I thought that made it a little bit cheesey so mine have a D-ring and a button. It allows it to slide and be adjustable. These are crochet thread as the pattern calls for and they are totally sexy.

I am working on a bag for my SIL. It Cascade 220 held together for thickness and I am using circular bamboo handles. It is going well but I need to pick up lining. Hot pink? I'll post pictures as soon as there is something to show. It is based losely on this purse.

My books have arrived!

They are earlier than I thought they would be. Yeah! I want to make the Doctor's Bag in Knit 2 Together so bad I can taste it. It is really quite lovely. I'm also happy to have the Knitter's Almanac. I've never owned a Zimmerman book. The structure of the book is very interesting. The felt book is fun but I don't know how much I will actually get out of it. Some of the items are a little too...funky for me. I have borrowed Stitch and Bitch Nation from the library before so no surprises but there are a few things I will take a closer look at now that I own it. See my previous post for the cabled hat from that book. It was fun and really cute. I'm knitting my SIL a purse for her birthday but I think it will be a cabled bag with a round handle so I'll make it up as I go. I need to get started because I have less than one month to knit it, line it and figure out how to attach the handles.

I ordered new books from Amazon because they were so cheap I couldn't help myself. I have a knitting book addiction. I own more books than I do yarn. I'm not ashamed to admit it. Since they were clearing some out at 80 percent off I probably picked up some books that I wouldn't have bought but they will be fun to flip through.

I can't wait until they get here! The other two I wanted were Knitted Toys by Zoe Mellor and Knitting Lingerie Style. I'll hold off on those since they weren't on any particular sale. The Lingerie knitting book gets great reviews for being beautiful but I found a more detailed review and it requires a sewing machine for a lot of the items and that TERRIFIES me. I decided to wait on knitted toys because that is one that people will love to see on my wish list come Christmas if they don't know what to get me. Yeah, NEW BOOKS!

This is the Chunky Cabled Purse from Knitpicks. I knit it for mother's day for my mil. It was a lot of fun. The knitting took one day and was super easy but the lining was much harder for me since I don't usually sew. The pattern calls for a tote from the craft store but I couldn't find one that ws the right size so I had to match material and make the lining. It all took about a week to complete. I got the handles at a LYN and the yarn too. She said she loves it!

I liked my newspaper boy cap enough that I knit the hat from Stitch and Bitch Nation. This is some Simply Soft Tweed I got in a gift basket for Christmas, I love the hat. My head is huge so I added a cable in the height.

This is from the same Debbie Bliss Cotton Angora that I made my messenger hat out of. Three balls was just enough to make both. The pattern is from an Ann Norling pattern I bought at my LYS when I first learned to knit. As you can tell, he doesn't like it much.

Hourglass sweater

This is the Hourglass sweater I finished in April for my sister's birthday. The yarn is Woolease and the pattern is from Last Minute Knitted Gifts.

I really enjoyed this pattern. It was simple and fast (3 weeks!) but I wish the neckline had been a little more finished looking. It gapes slightly and is very square. I knit VERY tightly so that wasn't a big deal as far as fit, but it could have used a bit of style. I think next time I make this (and I will) that I will follow the instructions for hems on Nothing But A T-Shirt from Magknits.

This is the hat I knit for my daughter. She is too hip for her own good at six years old! I used Lion Microspun and did the seaming on the inside for this one because she wanted it to "poof" up a bit. It fits her perfectly because the DK weight yarn made up the size difference. I was guessing when I substituted that it might work and THANK GOODNESS, it did. Her awful, digusting Brat makeup head is modeling it because she wouldn't do it for me.

This is the hat I made just after Christmas from a book my MIL got me for Christmas. The yarn is Debbie Bliss Cotton Angora. I made it for myself which made it a rarity. I almost alway knit for gifts. My daughter liked it so much that I

had to make one for her. That was not thrilling because the hat is knit in sections that are sewn together with the seams on the outside. You will learn that I hate seaming. I prefer to knit hats in the round.

Welcome to my new knitting blog. I've never blogged before but I am ADDICTED to reading other people's blogs and my husband encouraged me to do this. I've been knitting for about 2 years and I LOVE it. I'll hopefully keep you posted on what I'm making and how it is going. I'm a first time stay-at-home-mom with a little guy so I don't know how much knitting I will get done, but I've managed to fit some in so far.
